Responses to Music

I am a classical violinist and I find that listening to and playing music invokes visual imagery. The paintings on this page are some of my experiments.

From 2014 I started consciously making work in response to music and began with a series in response to the Carducci Quartet's 2015 recording of Shostakovich's 8th and 4th quartet.

My process in doing this is to only apply paint to the canvas while I am actually listening - each piece has its own very different vibration, colour palette and feel.

I always give 10% of the sale price of an original painting to environmental charities to honour the healing powers of Nature that inspire and help me.
